Villa Byblos is on the hills of L’Estaque, in Marseille’s 16th arrondissement. Marseille Provence airport and Gare Saint-Charles are each about 25 minutes away by car. In season, a boat takes you to the Vieux-Port in 35 minutes.

We send the exact address and an access video once you have booked.

At a glance: 25 minutes from everything

L’Estaque is the far northwest corner of Marseille, about 10 km from the Vieux-Port, on the side of the city that looks toward the airport and the Côte Bleue. You get in quickly and you get out quickly.

By plane: Marseille Provence airport

Marseille Provence airport (MRS) is in Marignane, on the same side of the city as L’Estaque. Allow about 25 minutes by car to the villa, without going through the centre.

From there you have two choices. You can hire a car at the airport, which makes sense if you plan days out in Provence. Or a taxi or private driver can take you up to the gate.

By train: TGV to Saint-Charles, or the local train to L’Estaque

High-speed TGV trains arrive at Gare Saint-Charles, in the city centre. To get up to the villa, you have two options.

By car or taxi. About 25 minutes. With luggage or children, this is the easiest.

By local train to L’Estaque. The ride takes about 10 minutes; check the timetable before you set off. L’Estaque station opened in 1848 and has been a listed historic monument since 2012. The villa is further up the hill. If you have bags, take a taxi for the last climb.

By car: A55, exit 7

On the A55 motorway, take exit 7 (Le Rove / L’Estaque). The hills are a few minutes from there, and the access video we send after booking guides you to the gate.

For a first shop on the way in, the Grand Littoral shopping centre and its Carrefour hypermarket are a few minutes away.

On arrival: private parking, secure gate, self check-in

The villa has 3 private parking spaces behind a secure gate. Check-in is self-service with a smart lock: no key handover to schedule, and no waiting if your flight is late. The exact address, your code and the access video arrive after booking.

So a group of 8 arriving in two cars doesn’t have to circle the neighbourhood streets looking for a spot.

The shuttle boat from L’Estaque to the Vieux-Port

If you’re going into town, this is the nicest way to do it. The RTM shuttle boat links the port of L’Estaque to the Vieux-Port in 35 minutes, by sea.

It runs from April to September, sometimes into October depending on the year. In 2026, that’s 25 April to 27 September. There is one boat an hour, plus extra evening boats in July and August. A single costs €5 and you buy it on board.

Before you go, check the current timetable on the RTM website, especially the time of the last boat back in the evening. Then you can have dinner at the Vieux-Port and get home without worrying about parking.

Getting around once you are here

The Côte Bleue train. The line starts at L’Estaque and runs west along the coast: Le Rove, Niolon, La Redonne-Ensuès, Carry-le-Rouet, Sausset-les-Pins, La Couronne-Carro, Martigues. It opened in 1915 and crosses 18 viaducts and goes through 23 tunnels. Allow about 10 minutes to Niolon, 15 minutes to La Redonne. On weekdays there are about 14 trains each way.

In summer the train is often the better choice. In 2026, from 18 April to 11 October, car access to the Ensuès calanques is limited to residents.

The Vieux-Port by sea. In season, that’s the shuttle boat described above, the most pleasant way into the centre.

The car. Useful for days in Provence and for shopping. When you get back, the villa’s three private spaces are there.

Why L’Estaque makes a good base

The airport is about 25 minutes away, and you don’t cross the city to get there. The Côte Bleue starts here: calanques, small fishing ports and viaducts are a few train stops away (our Côte Bleue guide). And in season, the Vieux-Port is 35 minutes away by boat.

The neighbourhood itself still lives like a village, with the Saturday morning market and chichis frégis and panisses on the port (where to eat in L’Estaque).

In the evening you come back up the hill to a 180° sea view.
